Emmerdale teases major storm chaos with first anniversary trailer - as lives at risk

Emmerdale has teased the epic storm set to hit the Dales as part of the ITV soap’s 50th anniversary, in a brand new trailer.

Emmerdale will celebrate its massive milestone in a matter of weeks, with the storm stunt set to wreak havoc on the characters in the village.

The trailer confirms that characters including Marlon (Mark Charnock), Charles (Kevin Mathurin) and Charity (Emma Atkins) will find themselves caught up amidst the terrifying ordeal, begging the question of who will make it out alive?

The trailer begins by teasing chaos surrounding Kim (Claire King) and Will’s (Dean Andrews) wedding on the ITV soap.

In the first look, Kim’s wedding dress is seen covered in filth, with muddy shoes in hand, as she stands on rocks in the middle of the storm.

Perhaps this has something to do with Harriet (Katherine Dow Blyton) declaring her love for Kim’s fiancé in next week’s instalment of the soap.

Figurines of the characters are seen in stock-still moments, as Cain and Al face off in another scene – has the truth about Al and Chas’ affair been revealed, prompting Cain to seek revenge?

In another scene, a scared Noah and Charity are sitting in their car in the village, surrounded by fallen trees and swirling storm clouds.

This special trailer has been created by a team at ITV Creatives,

Tony Pipes, the executive creative director at ITV Creatives, who compiled the special trailer said the 50th anniversary will be ‘a landmark moment in television’.

He added: “It’s amazing that a show has lived in the hearts and minds of the nation for five decades.

“The idea of a celebration cake came from the creative Jess, who saw it as a great vehicle to tell the story of the upcoming special episode, while also celebrating its heritage.”

Director Matt Rhodes explained the complexities of filming the trailer and working with the actors as they stood ‘completely motionless’ and used 3D printers to create the figurines.

He said: “They couldn’t move an inch as their clothes and hair were on wires to give the impression they were being battered by the high winds.

“Everything was recreated exactly as it is seen in the show – from The Woolpack to the barn, the car to the costumes. It’s a microcosm of the Emmerdale World,” Rachel King, creative director added.

“The audience are invested in the storylines of these well-loved characters and will be intrigued by the clues and easter eggs (not chocolate ones) of what’s to come, embedded into the film.

“While the execution is unfamiliar, using models, all of the action remains in the familiar and where the fans’ hearts live.”

Emmerdale will air a special one-hour episode on Sunday October 16, exactly 50 years to the day since the programme first appeared on our screens.
