The cast and crew of Emmerdale have officially kicked off celebrations to marks the soap's 50th anniversary today as the long running ITV show reaches a monumental milestone.

The Emmerdale family are marking the occasion with a huge cake of The Woolpack. ITV has unveiled some snaps from the celebrations as actors Fiona Wade, Chris Bisson, Lisa Riley, Mark Charnock, Zoë Henry, Jay Kontzle and Katherine Dow Blyton pose next to the impressive sweet treat.

With the countdown to the huge milestone in October now on, executive producer Jane Hudson reflects on what has made Emmerdale such a success. She said: “Emmerdale celebrating 50 years is a huge achievement and to be the executive producer at such an exciting time is an honour.
