Emmerdale star recalls past scenes that foreshadowed shock affair as she reveals fallout

Emmerdale star Susan Cookson has revealed all on what happens in the fallout of a shocking fling for her character Wendy Posner.

Wendy gives into passion with her colleague Liam Cavanagh next week, with the pair getting steamy on two occasions it seems.

Despite Wendy being with Bob Hope, she seeks comfort in Liam and after they both get drunk they end up sleeping together.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, actress Susan has revealed it may have always been on the cards, following Liam's split from his wife Leyla Harding.

Susan recalled scenes in the past between the pair that have seen them bond and share similar heartaches, that have no doubt brought them closer together.

Both Liam and Wendy have lost a child, while there's also the fact that Liam covered for Wendy when he learned her secret.

Wendy is not qualified as a nurse in her own name but under a different name instead, and Liam turned a blind eye to this.

Explaining what might have led to them getting close, Susan told us: "They're work colleagues, they get on, there's a mutual respect as colleagues but I realised the other day, there is a little bit more to Wendy and Liam.

"He knows about her past with the husband and the drug problem and she went to prison for a year because of her husband.

"There always seems to be confusion with the public that Wendy isn't a qualified nurse but she is, but she qualified under a different name and it was when Russ turned up and she tried to do right thing and hand her notice in, and she told Liam and he said her secret was safe with him. So I think there is a respect between the two of them and an understanding."

Liam actor Jonny McPherson added: "And [there's] a little bit of intimacy I suppose in harbouring a secret."

On the aftermath, Susan went on: "She feels terrible about it because she does love Bob. You can't not love Bob so she is devastated about that, and basically she tells Liam this has to stop, it was a moment of madness and great fun, but she is in a deep and meaningful relationship with Bob so it has to stop, which Liam doesn't want it to."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
