Emmerdale star Laura Norton loses 3st by ditching popular fizzy drink

Laura Norton, who is best known for playing Kerry Wyatt on the much-loved ITV soap Emmerdale, has over the years been an open book when it comes to her secret to losing weight.

The 39-year-old mum-of-one lost an impressive 3st before falling pregnant with her now one-year-old son Jesse, who she shares with her fiance and co-star Mark Jordan. And apparently, it's all down to good old willpower after changing her lifestyle and cutting out a guilty pleasure of hers: fizzy drinks.

Speaking of her weight loss journey on Lorraine previously, Laura said: "I just cut rubbish out of the diet and [started] exercising, which is what you should be doing anyway. In the eight years I have been on Emmerdale, I have never had a pudding. I can’t. It’s just a slippery slope."

Alongside puddings, sweets and unhealthy food, Laura quashed her addiction to fizzy drinks - in particular Coke, which is high in sugar and caffeine.

"I had been addicted since I was a teenager," she previously told The Mirror. "At its worse I used to drink two two-litre bottles of Coke a day. I know now how much sugar is in it. But when you are addicted, you don’t realise how much you are getting through."

And it was only when her dad pointed out her fixation on the fizzy drink, which sometimes saw her consume an additional 1,700 calories a day, that she decided to change her ways.

After giving up the fizzy drink, she said she felt “lucky to still have a tooth in her head”. She added: “It was so much caffeine, so much sugar, so bad for your teeth. One day I was at home in my pyjamas and I wanted my dad to go to the off-licence to get me some Coke. I think he just thought it had gone too far."

But it's not just her dad who inspired her to change her habits. Having appeared on the ITV soap since 2012, Laura also revealed that it was her character Kelly Wyatt who motivated her to lose weight.

"I was in skimpy outfits all the time on telly, and the camera also adds weight to you, so I thought I'd do something. I started to do a bit of exercise, which I hadn’t done for years," she said.

"You get a bit older and weight is harder to lose. Then I cut the Coca-Cola out and started to notice the difference and then just decided to keep it up."
