Emmerdale star Emma Atkins was 'devastated' at Charley Webb's surprise wedding

Emmerdale star Emma Atkins said she was "devastated" when she discovered she was Charley Webb's bridesmaid.

The soap favourite thought she was attending her co-star's 30th birthday, when in actual fact it was her secret wedding to Matthew Wolfenden.

Emma ended up being one of the bridesmaids, but said that she was "gutted" she wasn't dressed for the occasion.

Joined by co-star Lucy Pargeter for the video interview, Emma told OK! magazine : "I was gutted because I didn't look that great, and she had told me 'make sure you come looking great' and I thought 'alright, it's only a 30th'.

"When I turned out to be one of the bridesmaids I was absolutely devastated," she added.

Emma had worn a black smock dress with flowers stitched into the material with a pair of black tights and boots to the 2018 do.

Despite not feeling the part, Emma, who plays Charity Dingle, said that the wedding was "brilliant".

Charley and Matthew said "I do" after meeting on the set of the ITV soap back in 2007.

They've since had three children together - Buster, 11, Bowie, five and Ace, two.

The couple's 100 guests arrived at Ripley Castle in Harrogate before being told the surprise news that Charley and Matthew were actually getting married.

After the pair were asked to reveal the most embarrassing moments on set, Lucy revealed how she had a problem with wind.

She said that she was "told off" while they were filming during the pandemic: "My wind just happens, it just comes out, so I was told off by somebody for not putting a mask on when I burp so that was really quite embarrassing."

Emma's moment was when she was getting dressed and realised that there was a lump in her jeans, she fished around to see what it was and pulled out a pair of knickers in front of the costume crew.

Although, Lucy could top that, and said that she once did the same thing but at a restaurant.

Luckily for Lucy, who plays Chas Dingle, she said that the person she was having dinner with at the time "knew her pants".

The women let out a few set secrets, revealing that the village's hair salon is actually their dressing room.

They said how there is a special button that makes the chimney's smoke, and the Woolpack is just a shell, and is actually empty.

Speaking about what they liked most about being on the soap, they agreed it was the "people". They praised the cast and crew, adding that Emmerdale had a good atmosphere.
