The actor known for playing legendary Emmerdale character Shadrach Dingle has died.
The Dingles are arguably Emmerdale’s best-loved family. Acting star Andy Devine, 79, played Shadrach Dingle between 2000 and 2010.
He died on January 27 but news of his death has only now been announced. Earlier in his life, Andy, born Peter Devine, served in the Royal Navy during the 1960s.

He then moved into acting. Originally, he was a classical actor before land soap roles. Away from Emmerdale, Andy had roles in Coronation Street, Doctor Who, Doctors, Queer as Folk and Merseybeat among other well-known TV programmes.
He left Emmerdale in 2010 with his character dying in an emotional storyline about alcohol abuse. Many have taken to social media to pay tribute to Andy Devine.
