Emmerdale's missing Meena witnesses explained as four key characters absent

Emmerdale's Meena Jutla is finally getting her day in court after her heinous crimes.

The evil serial killer is on trial for the murders of Leanna Cavanagh, Andrea Tate and Ben Tucker, after she pleaded not guilty to those three crimes. Now she is set to have her time in court, with Meena finally in the dock as she faces the judge over her terrible crimes.

We already know her sister Manpreet Sharma and her friend Wendy have been called as witnesses - Manpreet for the prosecution, and Wendy as a character witness for the defence - but fans have been left puzzled by a string of missing witnesses, all who don't appear in the early pictures of the upcoming trial.

Here we take a look at why Vinny Dingle, Billy and Dawn Fletcher and Victoria Sugden all appear to be missing from the court case.

Meena's in court next week (ITV)

Vinny Dingle

Vinny (Bradley Johnson) was nearly murdered by evil serial killer Meena after he grew closer to finding out the truth of what happened to Ben in a bid to ensure his girlfriend Liv got out of jail.

Liv was incorrectly suspected of Ben's murder and in a bid to get his now-wife out of prison, Vinny set out to find out who had done it - with one of his post-it notes saying 'talk to Meena', putting him right in the evil killer's eye line.

Vinny, along with Manpreet, was held hostage by Meena (ITV)

It appears Vinny won't be at the trial next week, but it's likely because she never actually confessed to him directly what she had done to the others. Manpreet had told him what happened, but because he didn't hear it from Meena himself, it's likely that he won't be able to give any evidence that will help the prosecution.

Manpreet's testimony, on the other hand, will be vital.

Billy and Dawn Fletcher

Billy (Jay Kontzle) and Dawn (Olivia Bromley) may be husband and wife now but they nearly didn't get a chance to celebrate their life together after Meena set her sights on the pair. They were held at gun point by Meena on their wedding day, after she kidnapped them in a limousine and took them to a disused viaduct.

Whilst they were held hostage by Meena, it appears they won't be there at the court hearing - and it's likely because it's been made very obvious that they were held hostage. Multiple people witnessed it, including Leyla Cavanagh, whilst they also lived to tell their own ordeal and so all the villagers soon found out what had happened.

The hard evidence - like the limousine and the rope Meena got Dawn to tie Billy with and the gun, if they were able to find it in the ravine - are likely to provide enough evidence, even without their testimony.

Victoria Sugden

Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) was one of the first of Meena's targets after she set her sights on the villager as she wanted her boyfriend David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) all to herself. She tried to drown Victoria after the bridge collapsed in Super Soap Week last year, and killed Andrea once she realised she had seen the whole thing.

However, it appears Victoria hasn't been called to court - and it's likely for a very good reason, as she didn't actually know any of it had happened. She was knocked unconscious by Meena and with the video footage that Ben discovered, which led to his own untimely death, the police likely have all the proof they need of what Meena did to Victoria.

Either way, Emmerdale promises some exciting scenes as Meena finally has to face up to her crimes. But will she manage to get away with things yet again - or will the families finally get the justice they deserve?
