Emmerdale's Meena Jutla has ‘no chance of escape’ as writers celebrate ‘witch is gone’

Emmerdale fans have seen the last of serial killer Meena Jutla on the ITV soap, with any chances of her escaping a life sentence in prison crushed.

The ITV soap aired the moment viewers had been waiting for on Monday night, as the killer nurse was sentenced to life in prison.

Meena’s final scenes saw her weeping as she finally faced punishment for three of the murders she committed, handing justice to Ben Tucker, Leanna Cavanagh and Andrea Tate.

The judge sentenced her to at least 75 years in total and Meena was told she would never be allowed out.

Stunned that she would not get away with her crimes as each sentence was revealed, she suddenly looked terrified as she realised there was no escape, and everyone had seen through her act.

Meena wept as she was dragged away by a prison officer and taken to her cell, as she begged sister Manpreet Sharma to help her.

Her final scenes saw her sobbing on her bed, begging those in the prison not to ignore her.

This Morning ’s soap expert Sharon Marshall was on Tuesday’s programme to dish the latest gossip from soapland with hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby as they returned from their Easter break.

Turning to Emmerdale, Sharon confirmed that Monday’s scenes were the long-awaited “the end of Meena”, with no hopes of a Shawshank-style runner.

She said: “There’s going to be no jailbreaks or anything. It ended.”

She then added: “On the script it said ‘Ding, dong, the witch is gone’. She was locked up for 75 years and has no chance of escape.”

Moving on to other storylines on the Dales, Sharon added: “Alongside that we have the very serious story of Marlon and his recovery from the stroke.

“Rhona is running herself ragged. She’s got children, she’s got a job, she’s trying to care for him and bring him home. Her life has completely changed and she’s asking why hasn’t everyone else’s?”

As Meena’s sentencing began on Monday evening, the rampant murderer tried to halt proceedings as she realised no one was there to witness it, after the loved ones of those killed decided to miss the hearing.

Manpreet did eventually arrive in silence, and watched as her sister learned of her fate.

Meena looked on furiously as the judge told her: “Meena Jutla, you have been convicted by the jury of the murders of Leanna Cavanagh, Andrea Tate and Ben Tucker.

“Your intention was to kill and you were successful. You killed each of them in the most unexpected and frightful ways. We must now sentence you for those murders.”

He went on: “Leanna Cavanagh, Andrea Tate and Ben Tucker were blameless victims who simply had the misfortune to get in your way. A beloved daughter, a beloved mother and a beloved son needlessly killed by you.

“I've seen no genuine remorse from you, you are a manipulative person. You have told many lies and shifted the blame to try and save your own skin.”

Calling her "malignant", he added: "As witnessed in this same court room where you held us hostage only days ago, in a desperate last attempt to feel important. You failed. You were eager to leave a legacy... it is to be forgotten."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
