Emmerdale's Meena actress Paige Sandhu tipped for Strictly Come Dancing after soap exit

Emmerdale star Paige Sandhu has been tipped to appear on the BBC ’s Strictly Come Dancing after exiting the ITV soap and her role as Meena Jutla in dramatic fashion.

The 25-year-old soap star left the Dales in chaotic courtroom scenes that aired earlier this week and saw her killer nurse character sentenced to 75 years in prison.

Paige is now the bookies favourite to join the infamous BBC ballroom and compete for the coveted Glitterball trophy.

Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati told the Daily Star : “It looks like Paige Sandhu's next move will take her to the dance floor with Strictly chiefs currently leading the way for her signature.”

If Paige does join this year’s line-up of Strictly Come Dancing celebs, she will join a growing list of Emmerdale alumni who have all found success on the show.

Kelvin Fletcher, who was a mainstay on the Dales for 20 years as Andy Sugden, won the seventeenth series of Strictly in 2019 with his professional partner Oti Mabuse, who has since left the show.

Prior to Kevin’s spin on the dancefloor, Mandy Dingle actress Lisa Riley finished in fifth place in 2012 alongside partner Robin Windsor.

Last year's competition was won by EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis, best known for playing Frankie Lewis, and her professional partner Giovanni Pernice.

Emmerdale aired the moment viewers had been waiting for on Monday night, as the killer nurse was sentenced to life in prison.

Meena’s final scenes saw her weeping as she finally faced punishment for three of the murders she committed, handing justice to Ben Tucker, Leanna Cavanagh and Andrea Tate.

The judge sentenced her to at least 75 years in total and Meena was told she would never be allowed out.

Stunned that she would not get away with her crimes as each sentence was revealed, she suddenly looked terrified as she realised there was no escape, and everyone had seen through her act.

Meena wept as she was dragged away by a prison officer and taken to her cell, as she begged sister Manpreet Sharma to help her.

Her final scenes saw her sobbing on her bed, begging those in the prison not to ignore her.

This Morning ’s soap expert Sharon Marshall confirmed that Monday’s scenes were the long-awaited “the end of Meena”, with no hopes of a Shawshank-style runner.

She said: “There’s going to be no jailbreaks or anything. It ended.”

She then added: “On the script it said ‘Ding, dong, the witch is gone’. She was locked up for 75 years and has no chance of escape.”
