Emmerdale's Marlon Dingle actor praises co-star as she leaves ITV soap

Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock has shared a message of praise to his fellow cast member, Elizabeth Boag, as she announced her departure from the ITV soap. Elizabeth has been playing Gail Hancock, Marlon Dingle's nurse whilst he's been in hospital and has become a vital role in helping him recover - but it seems she's bidding farewell to the Yorkshire soap.

In scenes which aired on Monday, April 25, Marlon was preparing to head home whilst nurse Gail helped to pack his belongings. In the emotional clip he thanked the nurse for "putting up" with him whilst she told him to "keep pushing on". The major storyline which first started to play out in March, has left many fans in tears and caused turmoil amongst Marlon's family and friends in the village - but his nurse has been by his side throughout the ordeal.

But it seems that may be the last we see of Marlon's nurse - or at least for the time being - as actress Elizabeth Boag, who has been playing her, sent out a tweet at the end of Monday night's episode saying: "Bye Gail! Thank you @markcharnock, @ZoeHenry03, all the cast, crew and casting team @emmerdale. Loved every minute".

Mark Charnock, who has played Marlon Dingle in the soap since 1996, quickly replied with a sweet message for his co-star saying: "You were wonderful in the part, Liz! Just superb. Xx".

Fans of the soap were disappointed to see her chapter on the soap come to an end, with many already suggesting she could be a the perfect replacement for evil Meena's old job in the surgery - now that the serial killer is behind bars. "#Emmerdale That nurse should be given a permanent part in the show," Michael Marshall tweeted whilst Stevie P added: "You were brilliant in your role they should give you a full time part".

Fiona asked: "Please can you replace Meena as the new practice nurse, you’re fab!" and @News4Emmerdale added: "Noooo best nurse they've had in years. She wasn't a murderer #emmerdale".

"You were great," Anthony tweeted to the actress adding: "loved the character of Nurse Gail. I sensed a frisson of attraction from Marlon when he said goodbye. I do hope the writers will use you again. Good luck in your future work". Eden Maddox said: "You were brilliant! I really was hoping you might be Marlon's home carer to help out Rhona and the rest of the family! Blessings and love to you everafter, Miss Boag! X"

Emmerdale continues weeknights on ITV and ITV Hub from 7.30pm.
