Emmerdale's Mark Charnock admits he can't remember NTA speech as he teases Sunday episode

Emmerdale’s Mark Charnock has hinted at a ‘dramatic’ episode for the 50th anniversary of the ITV soap as he shared his reaction to The King's surprise message of support after his NTA win.

The Marlon Dingle actor won the award for best Serial Drama at the National Television Awards. The star was up against, Gillian Wright as Jean Slater on EastEnders, Rose Ayling-Ellis as Frankie Lewis on EastEnders, Mark Charnock as Marlon Dingle Emmerdale and Paige Sandhu as Meena Jutla on Emmerdale.

Speaking about his award he said: “I have absolutely no recollection of what I said - I don’t even know if I spoke English so if it was in order then that’s a win in itself.”

Ben then revealed that he messaged the actor before the award show and wished him luck, he said: “I messaged you yesterday and said good luck, I voted, you are going to win.” But Mark was doubtful and replied to his text and said: “I’ve got no chance - I’m just excited to be there.”

Mark revealed: “I was genuinely chuffed to be there. I saw that I was shortlisted and I thought 4th is great. I’m looking at Paige next to me and all the other nominees and when they said my name out I just thought what.”

Kate then brought up The King Charles surprise video message during the NTA, where he congratulated the Emmerdale cast on their 50th anniversary.

Mark admitted he had no idea and was just as surprised as everyone when The King appeared on the big screen. He joked: “I thought it was going to be an impressionist - I was shocked. It was so nice what he said and I’ve decided that he watches it - every episode definitely.”

Asked about the ITV soaps upcoming 50th anniversary, Mark remained tight-lipped about his involvement in the episode but dropped some hints about storylines coming to an end in the “dramatic” special.

ITV soap will be celebrating their 50th anniversary on Sunday night with a hour-long special where fans will see a deadly storm hit the village and this story is also expected to end in tragedy.

Speaking about the episode Mark went on to say: “We watched it as viewers, we went to a viewing in Leeds and the biggest complaint I can give is I just forgot, I was in disbelief.”

He added: “It’s one of the best hour of Emmerdale I’ve ever seen and it’s so dramatic. It’s really moving. I honestly can’t tell you how strongly I feel about that episode.

“I'm not going to tell you how much I’m in it but there are some storylines that come to a head in that episode. You can tell I’m really pleased with it.”
