Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter teases 'no one is safe' ahead of show's 50th anniversary

Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter teases "no one is safe" from the show's 50th anniversary twists and storylines.

As the ITV soap opera celebrates its 50th anniversary, Lucy Pargeter has sparked rumours regarding the future of her castmates. While not spoiling anything, the 45-year-old said even the longest-running characters may meet unfortunate fates.

Lucy previously shared that she is only on a one-year rolling contract, meaning her character could be axed in a dramatic fashion. She also hinted that she thinks it's likely her role as Chas Dingle will be "sacrificed."

She said: "No one is safe. I’m on a year’s contract so every year I wonder, ‘Is this my last?’ It’s the show’s 50th anniversary this year. Do they need to sacrifice someone to pull in the audience?" She went on to say she loved her time as landlady of The Woolpack, saying the scripts always got her emotional.

She added: "It was massively unsettling. I love being behind that bar. I wondered what my role in the village was going to be. Will they find Chas a job? Will I have a job? My kids are settled and every time I get the scripts, there’s something that will make me laugh or cry. I’d be quite happy to retire at Emmerdale."

Emmerdale bosses also revealed that there will be a new baby arriving in the Dales in October.
