Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter has message for fans who 'hate Chas'

Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter has delivered a message to fans after many have called for her character to be removed from the soap.

Viewers have had little sympathy for Chas Dingle of late, as the married mum was having an affair with also-taken Al Chapman. Last month, heartrending scenes showed Faith Dingle taking her final breath alongside her son Cain.

But Chas was nowhere to be seen, as she was in a hotel room with Al, with her phone switched off.

More recently, Al was killed following a chaotic scene involving Cain and his son Kyle. Chas has since been wracked with grief and guilt, but some viewers think she is being selfish by making devastating losses "all about her".

In what seems to be a response to viewers who have made some harsh comments about her character, Chas star Lucy took to Twitter to say a few words. The actress said: "Just a little thank you from me and my Emmerdale family.

"Thank you for watching, enjoying and being so involved and invested in the stories we tell. And judging from many of your comments about Chas at the moment, I’d say it’s done what we strive to do, get you talking".

Soap fans were quick to respond to the tweet. Jennifer said: "Proves what a good actress you are, plus it shows what grief can do", while Audrey White said: "Oh, you’re a hated woman at the moment!! But that shows how good you are at your job!! Please go back to being nice Chas though".

June said: "Many of us hate Chas because you are playing your part so well, Lucy. Well done". While H L Spenny said "Chas seriously needs to start telling the truth about her affair with Al to everyone, especially her husband Paddy. I feel absolutely sorry for him not knowing what has happened but you, Lucy, are doing an amazing job. Keep it up".
