Emmerdale viewers celebrated Mary's emotional coming out storyline.
Fans have watched Kim and Mary strike up an unlikely relationship over the last few weeks and tonight's episode saw them take things one step further. Having a conversation at Home Farm, Mary began acting evasive when a question from Kim rekindled some painful memories.
Mary confides in Kim and reveals she is a lesbian before explaining her past relationship issues. As Kim reassures her nothing will change in their friendship, she adds Rhona shouldn't be left in the dark and asks Mary come out to her too.

Viewers were quick to celebrate Mary's coming out and said the new storyline will resonate with fans of all ages. One supportive fan said: "That made me really emotional! I love Mary, what a great addition to the cast. #Emmerdale"
Another added: "My heart. Mary we love you #emmerdale." Another said: "I felt every bit of relief for Mary when she said that. There is no release like it when you say out loud “I’m gay” Brave, beautiful Mary #Emmerdale"
A final comment said: "Absolutely fantastic scenes from #emmerdale tonight. Mary's story will resonate with many I imagine. Older representation is important. #PrideMonth #loveislove #Pride."
Kim promised Mary nothing will change and encouraged her to live her "out and proud" life. Mary follows the likes of Aaron, Charity and Debbie Dingle alongside Zoe Tate and Jason Kirk who all came out as LGBT and had storylines relating to their sexuality.
