Emmerdale's Katherine Dow Blyton's life from famous relative to rival soap role

Whilst Emmerdale fans may recognise Katherine Dow Blyton as the soap's Harriet Finch, she's had a spectacular career well before she starred in the show.

Strangely Harriet Finch is Katherine's second role in Emmerdale, having appeared before in 1996 as an unnamed doctor who treated Roy Glover after he severed his fingers.

But she has not remained loyal to the Yorkshire Dales as she's actually appeared in multiple soaps.

She's been in plenty of dramas too and has even been seen on stage.

Who is Katherine Bow Blyton?

Katherine is 57 years old and had humble origins - she began working in a greengrocers, earning just £5 per day.

Born in Jarrow, County Durham, she worked hard to get where she is.

Katherine now lives in London and commutes to film Emmerdale.

Her first telly appearance was in 1995 in a singular episode of television series Cracker, starring Robbie Coltrane.

Her first film role was in the 1996 Brassed off, which starred Ewan McGregor and Tara Fitzgerald.

Katherine keeps her private life private but she is thought to have a boyfriend.

Appearing on Lorraine in 2020, the presenter referred to a partner.

Katherine herself has shared snaps of her beloved dog Dexter being washed by 'his dad'.

Her soap stardom

Katherine appeared on Casualty as four different characters: Sally Hobson, Brenda Timms, Mary Javis and Maya Joseph.

But she's also appeared in Doctors as multiple different characters and had a regular stint on Hollyoaks as Sally Hunter, appearing from 2004 to 2005.

She has also appeared in a version of Coronation Street - a hit stage production made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of life on the cobbles.

Katherine has also appeared in Silent Witness, Father Brown and Where the Heart Is.

Famous connections

Katherine has starred in This Is England alongside Vicky McClure, appearing in both 86 and 88.

Both were TV drama mini series, a spin of This is England, the film.

Katherine played Christine "Chrissy" Jenkins and Vicky McClure played Frances Lorraine "Lol" Jenkins.

Katherine is also related to the children's author Enid Blyton, and speaking to Eamonn Holmes on ITV programme This Morning, she said, "Enid Blyton was a cousin of my grandpa’s”.

Katherine also appeared in the first series of the Syndicate alongside Matthew Lewis and Joanna Page.
