Emmerdale’s Jonny McPherson confirms relationship with ‘wonderful’ new girlfriend after split from Scots co-star

Emmerdale star Jonny McPherson has revealed he has found love again following his split from Scots co-star Natalie J Robb.

Jonny, 41, plays Dr Liam Cavanagh in the ITV soap and his on-screen character's love life is in chaos at the moment as he embarks on a steamy affair with Wendy Posner, played by Susan Cookson. Outside of the soap, Jonny shared his love life is back on track as he opened up about his 'wonderful' new girlfriend.

“I am with someone,” he told OK! Magazine. “She is absolutely wonderful. We’ve been together for a couple of years. I am really happy.”

Jonny and former High Road star Natalie split in 2021 after their romance began during the pandemic. Natalie, who plays fan favourite Moira Dingle in the soap, revealed their relationship was "too intense" after they moved in together because of the lockdown.

The 49-year-old told The Sun: “Unfortunately, it was Covid times, so there was this added pressure. He moved in with me during the first lockdown and it was just too intense, too soon.

"And if you’re not used to that, which I hadn’t been for a while, we realised pretty quickly that we were better off as friends.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Jonny opened up about his personal life and revealed that his earnings from Emmerdale had finally allowed him to get a mortgage. He said: "It can be very difficult to get a mortgage if you are only working for six months of the year.

"So, when you get two years of working on something like Emmerdale, it allows you to get a mortgage finally."

He added: "I’ve got a flat now in Leeds and I’ve sold my boat. I did put it on Airbnb for 18 months before I sold it, and it really took off.

"After a while, though, it began to get more difficult to manage. I was having to check in guests at 10pm on a Friday evening on top of my full-time role in Emmerdale and I decided to sell.”

Emmerdale airs every weekday at 7.30pm. You can also watch all the episodes on ITVX.
