Emmerdale's Jeff Hordley has been quizzed on the fate of his character Cain Dingle after flash-forward moments shown in the soap's special week of episodes reveal him to be badly injured after a shocking car crash. The 52-year-old actor, who has played Cain for more than 20 years, appeared on This Morning to discuss the upcoming drama.
This week the Yorkshire soap has started each episode with a flash-forward scene. On Wednesday night, viewers saw Cain hunched over a steering wheel, with blood all over his head and seemingly unconscious after the car was shown flipping over. The ongoing feud between Cain and Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) looks set to come to a head in Thursday's hour-long episode. For months the pair have been at each other's throats and now it seems their dispute is going to become dangerous.
Joining Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes on the ITV daytime programme, Jeff sat down to discuss what is in store for his character this week. But host Phillip was determined to get to the answer fans have been wanting, will Cain die or will he survive?
"So there's a big crash tonight," Phillip said: "That's what know, that's what we've seen. We've seen his head on the steering wheel, so how does he do?". Jeff kept tight-lipped, careful not to spoil the episode and replied: "Well I'm here, that's good. I'm ok, I can't really say too much because I'll just spoil the episode".
Phillip then tried another tactic, desperate to get more details from the actor and asked Jeff about the preparations for Emmerdale's upcoming 50th anniversary in October. Jeff told the This Morning hosts the cast is being kept in the dark, as the producers are keeping most of the details secret.
Phillip then quizzed Jeff further, asking: “You’re looking forward to that then?” and Jeff happily replied: “It’s going to be great, yeah!”. “So you’re not dead?" Phil replied to which Rochelle started laughing and said: "I see what you're doing there". Jeff repeated the question, before the penny dropped, and he laughed pointing at Phillip.
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub from 7.30pm with an hour-long episode airing on Thursdays.
