Emmerdale's Hayley Tamaddon rushed to hospital after 'becoming very poorly very quickly'

Hayley Tamaddon has been diagnosed with meningitis after being rushed to hospital.

The soap star was rushed to hospital over the weekend where she was pictured on an IV drip. Releasing a statement on Instagram she explained that she had become "very poorly very quickly".

In the post, she said: “Last weekend did not go as planned…and I ended up in hospital with meningitis. I got poorly very quickly. And my temperature wasn't coming down it was going up."

The mum-of-one added: "The light hurt my eyes and my head felt like it might explode. My neck was stiff and my body ached. I rang a family friend Anthony Kearns who is a doctor at Blackpool Hospital A&E department and told him my symptoms and he told me to get to hospital asap.

"I was taken into a cubicle and straightaway the amazing doctor, Dr Karun, said I think this is meningitis, but at that stage they weren’t sure if it was bacterial or viral. So I was given strong antibiotics through a drip. Then a brain scan and a lumbar puncture confirmed it was viral. And a few days later I was sent home.”

She went on to share her thanks for the staff at Blackpool hospital and added a list of "amazing" nurses who helped care for her. She highlighted one medical professional in particular named Caitlin, who "held my hand through the lumbar puncture". Hayley said: "I squeezed it that tight I honestly thought I’d broken her fingers."

Famous friends and fans took to the comments to wish her well. Fellow soap star Samia Longchambon said: "Massive hugs Hayley.. rest up."

Coleen Nolan said: "Oh … so glad you’re ok…" followed by a red love heart emoji. Meanwhile, Corrie star Georgia Taylor said: "Oh gosh darling, you poor thing! So glad to hear you’re doing ok now. Sending love xx".
