Emmerdale's Harriet Finch's Liverpool connection and what makes city special

Katherine Dow Blyton swooned over her Liverpool connection in an exclusive interview with the ECHO.

The soap star is renowned for her portrayal of Harriet Finch in Emmerdale. Before she arrived in the fictional Yorkshire village, the 57-year-old was known to soap fans for her stint in Hollyoaks.

Katherine played Sally Hunter on the Channel 4 programme from 2001 - 2005 - and relocated to Merseyside for her four year contract. She resided in Mossley Hill during her time in Liverpool and gushed over her stay in the city.

She said: "We used to love going the Albert Dock and had a good few parties there. We used to drink locally so we'd often be in the Penny Lane and where else did I live? I've drunk a lot of wine since then.

"It's great for a night out and great for locals." Katherine said she had a "lovely time" in Liverpool and revealed what makes the city so special.

She said: "The people and the good craic. I made lots of friends who I'm still in touch with now."

Katherine joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2013 and her character has endured a turbulent nine years in the Yorkshire Dales. Harriet has alternated between a vicar and a police officer and Katherine joked her character is "like Mr Benn."

She added: "She just comes out in a different uniform. What I'm struggling with at the moment is going back to the police. I'm now back in the uniform and it is the most uncomfortable costume I have ever worn. I take my hat off to police men and women because it is hideous to walk around in. It weighs a ton and is not at all flattering."

The ECHO spoke to Katherine as the show kicked off its 50th birthday celebrations. The programme will mark its milestone anniversary with a special set of episodes as a devastating form is set to rip through the village.

Katherine provided an insight into how her character is involved in the build up. She said: "There's gonna be a problem with Will and Kim because she has all these re-emerging feelings for Will. So that is going to cause a bit of a problem since they're about to get married so the timing is not brilliant.

"She's having a little dalliance with Dan, but she's not sure because she's not used to nice men. Who knows what they've got in store for me?"
