Danny Miller has hit back at fans after baffling some National Television Awards viewers with a cheeky dig at Stephen Mulhern.
I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! King of the Castle Danny, 31, made the jibe as he joined is former campmates and picked up the The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award on Thursday October 31.
Danny, 31, made the speech after Ant and Dec were unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19, forcing them to drop out of the NTAs and Britain's Got Talent filming.
Danny said: "Just on behalf of Ant and Dec, who unfortunately have Covid so they can't be here tonight, and Stephen Mulhern is in the crowd so not sure why he hasn't accepted the award on behalf of them."
The camera then switched to Stephen who pulled a funny face into the lens.
Viewers reacted with confusion on Twitter as one said: "#NTAs what was that dig at Stephen Mulhern about? He obviously didn't come and accept the award on their behalf because he's got nothing to do with I'm a Celeb? Seems an unessecary comment by Danny..." [sic]
Another pointed out: "That was a bit of a weird dig from Danny towards Stephen wasn’t it? #NTAs".
"Yes I’m a celebrity won but was Danny Miller having a pop at Stephen Mulhern then it sounded like it ?? #NTAs," a third asked.
Now, Danny has hit back as he posted a selfie showing the former Emmerdale actor grinning alongside Stephen to his Instagram story.
He wrote on top of the picture: "Don't believe everything you read. A good friend and a personal joke @stephenmulhern."
It comes after In For A Penny presenter Stephen, 45, was seen ripping up Ant and Dec's NTA acceptance speech as he accepted the best presenter gong on their behalf, which they won for the 21st year in a row.
As the magician and presenter stepped up on stage to accept the award on the presenting duo's behalf, Stephen was seen tearing the speech up as he joked that he would be stealing the award himself.
"They gave me some words," he said. "But I'm not going to accept that drivel!"
Stephen hadn't been nominated for the gong this year but Bradley Walsh, Alison Hammond and Graham Norton had.
Later, Stephen posted a photo of himself kissing the award on his Instagram story.
Writing on top of the image, he joked: "@antanddec have for too many! I'll look after this for a few years....
"All joking aside, nobody deserves it more!"
Poorly hosts Ant and Dec were quick to react to Stephen's antics as they tweeted: "Oi Mulhern!! I’m watching you from home. Keep that award safe and we will see you at work soon (if you’re lucky!)
" A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us. From the bottom of our we are so so grateful. love ya’s! A".
Ant then added: "You look well fit though! A".
