Emmerdale's Claire King lifts lid on soap's legendary boozy wine lunches

Emmerdale icon Claire King has lifted the lip on the soap’s legendary boozy lunches.

Speaking to OK, soap icon Claire King, 60, who plays Emmerdale superbitch Kim Tate has been talking about Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary and how the soap has changed down the years.

One major difference is the end of a working lunch for the soap’s stars.

Claire said she used to go to wine lunches she used to enjoy with her late co-star Richard Thorp - who played Alan Turner on the ITV soap.

Although, Claire stressed this would never happen now given Emmerdale is shot on a specially built set.

"Richard Thorp and I used to, this was in the good old days, you wouldn't dream of doing it now with health and safety, we would be filming in Esholt (the real village where they filmed before), the pub was a real pub," she explained.

"We'd book our lunch and actually order a bottle of wine for lunch and then go back on set in the afternoon. Those were the days. It's unheard of now, but that's what we used to do."

We imagine some cast members might miss those glory days.

Elsewhere, Claire has teased a few hints about what to expect during this milestone Emmerdale year.

Claire said: “I think all the stuff with Jamie might raise its ugly head, as Kim thinks Jamie is dead and hasn’t seen Millie – I know she’ll want to see her granddaughter.

“She will have a way of trying to find her. But I don’t know.”

As Emmerdale fans know, Jamie, played by Alex Lincoln, is alive and well after his car was seen plummeting into water.

Fans have been hoping the character will soon return - as many villagers believe he died in the crash.

We’ll keep you posted on plans for Emmerdale’s big 50th anniversary.
