Emmerdale's Chas Dingle star Lucy Pargeter on how she is coping with hate over on Al affair

Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas Dingle in the long running ITV soap, has opened up on how she is dealing with the hate she is receiving due to her characters current cheating scandal storyline.

Viewers have watched through gritted teeth the past few month as Chas, who is married to village vet and all time Emmerdale fan favourite Paddy, has been playing away with bad boy Al Chapman.

Paddy Kirk, played by Dominic Brunt, is completely oblivious to Chas and Al's relationship that has been going on for months behind his back and fans are less than happy with Chas' behaviour, with many even calling for the "unbearable" character to be axed.

And now, actor, Lucy, has spoken out about how she is dealing with the backlash from the controversial storyline. In an interview with Express.co.uk and other media Lucy addressed the hate she has been receiving off the back of her character's affair.

The 45-year-old actress said: "People are really not liking them together. You have got the cheerleaders but Chas definitely has the haters for what she is doing to Paddy and the reasons behind what she is doing with Al.

"But she stated at the beginning there were no affections and how I see it is that she is going to the gym and doesn’t have time.

"But she kind of has a bit of time for Al to release herself from everything that has been going on in her life, but as more time has gone on, more affection and more emotion have arisen."

Lucy added: "I hate what she is doing [to Paddy], we were never going to win people over when Paddy is involved."

In recent scenes Chas' son, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) found out his mother was cheating on Paddy, who has been his only father figure.

Lucy teased: "Paddy is his dad, not his real dad, but he has fulfilled that role ever since he came into the show, so to see his mum’s moral compass going slightly askew with the love he has for Paddy, we shall see if he is able to keep his mouth shut."

Viewers have seen Chas' multiple attempts to end things with lover boy Al but the pair keep gravitating towards one another.

Speaking about how she's found being part of such a controversial storyline, Lucy revealed: "You have to suck up your own feelings sometimes and think, if that's what my character is doing I am going to have to believe it."

And it seems its all about to come to head as Emmerdale spoilers reveal that Cain learns about the affair in upcoming scenes and tricks Al into meeting him in a barn.

Next week Cain finds his sister's other phone and notices a string of mystery messages, he is desperate to find out who Chas has been sleeping with so he calls the number back and is shocked to hear Al on the other end.

Cain then uses this as an opportunity to set a trap, and create a fake meeting between Chas and Al. With Al showing up to expect a meeting with Chas he instead finds Cain waiting with a shotgun.

Chas is then sent into a panic realising that Cain has found her burner phone and knowing what her brother can be like. Al and Cain have a chat but tensions will soon rise and a violent fight takes place as the two both try and get the shotgun, a shot fires and viewers are left wondering which one has taken the bullet.
