Emmerdale's Charley Webb teases new TV roles after shock soap exit

Former Emmerdale star Charley Webb has confirmed she will soon return to our screens following quitting her role as Debbie Dingle on the ITV soap.

The 34-year-old actress has announced she is filming two new TV projects this summer, after her shock departure from Emmerdale earlier this year.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday evening, Charley shared a sneak peek behind the scenes of a new secret project she is working on.

She said she was “excited” to be back on screen alongside a mirror selfie of herself at a costume fitting.

The former soap star penned: “Costume fitting today for my new job. I'm excited for the next 2 projects I'm filming over the summer and to get back on screen.”

Charley's former co-stars and celebrity friends were out in force to congratulate the star.

Brother and Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas commented: “Yes babe x” followed with a heart and clap emoji.

While Emmerdale's Victoria Sugden star Isabel Hodgins commented: “So exciting xxx.”

Former Corrie star Michelle Keegan added: “Yaaaaay! Go on gurl” followed with a series of clapping emojis.

It was reported that Charley, who had not appeared in Emmerdale since the beginning of 2021 when her character was involved in an affair with Al, closed the door on the soap for good after her husband's recent racism row on set.

However, the mum-of-three, who was a firm Emmerdale favourite for 19 years, later confirmed that her decision to leave the show was nothing to do with her husband Matthews dispute.

In a question and answer session with her fans on Instagram, the star revealed that actually, she had made the decision to leave the village behind a year ago.

Charley said: “I left to have Ace two years ago.

"I went back at the end of last year for ten weeks to complete a storyline so I guess officially it's been a year. I never felt the need to announce it so we didn't.”

It came as a massive shock for fans who had been expecting Debbie Dingle to return from Scotland where she has been since her affair with Al.

Charley has spent the last few years focusing on being a mum, she shares three children with her husband and former co-star Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe in the soap.

The pair, who met on set, married in a secret ceremony in February 2018 in front of their family and friends.
