Emmerdale's Charley Webb issues apology over baby gender reveal confusion

Emmerdale favourite Charley Webb has issued an apology after she was bombarded with messages from confused fans who thought the family's celebrations for her husband's birthday were in fact a gender reveal.

Charley, who is best known for playing Debbie Dingle in the long-running ITV soap, took to Instagram this morning to share a clip of herself, her husband Matthew Wolfenden and their three children (Buster, Bowie and Ace) letting off a confetti cannon in the garden, dressed in their pyjamas.

The mum-of-three captioned the post "Happy Birthday Matthew" as she tagged her other half, who is best known for his role as David Metcalfe in Emmerdale.

However, the clip caused quite a commotion after fans presumed the celebration was a gender reveal as the confetti cannon, which is often used to reveal a baby's gender by expecting couples, let out pink glitter.

Charley was later forced to apologise to her 562k followers after being inundated with messages, confirming that she was not pregnant and despite the confusion, it was not a gender reveal.

Posting a snap of herself wearing shorts in her Instagram stories, the actor said: "Two things, number one that is not a gender reveal, I've had 58, 013 messages. Sorry about that. Number two - when does the heatwave start?"

And it's not the first time that Charley has left her fans perplexed with her cryptic Instagram posts this week. Earlier in the week, the soap star caused confusion when she posted a snap of the notes her husband had left for his tribe before he left for work.

However, fans were left baffled as to why their youngest child three-year-old Ace's note was signed from Matthew, whereas the older boys, Buster and Bowie's notes read "love daddy".

Charley was forced to explain in a series of stories, she said: "I've had so many messages saying why does Matthew's note to Ace say 'To Ace from Matthew' and not daddy, that is because Ace decided that he wasn't going to call him daddy anymore, he calls him Matthew.

"Like not all the time but probably 95% of the time, and because he knows that Matthew doesn't like it, he does it more, it's quite funny.

"But yeah, Ace is not one to follow a rule, in fact, none of my kids are."

The 34-year-old actress followed the stories with a selfie of herself and Ace with the caption: "Not one to conform this one."
