Emmerdale's Amy Nuttall's marriage to Andrew Buchan and TV career

Former Emmerdale star Amy Nuttall is best known for portraying Chloe Atkinson on the long-running ITV soap. She left the ITV soap in 2005 after five years on set. The 40-year-old also starred in Downton Abbey as housemaid Ethel Parks.

As well as starring in Downton Abbey, Amy also appeared in both series of ITV drama Liar in 2017 and 2020. Other TV credits include New Tricks, Death in Paradise and Hotel Babylon.

Off-screen, Amy is married to Broadchurch star Andrew Buchan. The two married in 2012 and share two children together but it has recently been reported he is now with BBC Better co-star Leila Farzard.

Broadchurch actor Andrew Buchan has reportedly walked out on his Emmerdale actress wife Amy Nuttall after falling for his co-star on BBC’s brand new drama, Better.

A source told The Sun: "It was a huge shock. Amy is heartbroken.' Andrew is said to have told Amy that their marriage was over before Christmas, leaving the actress devastated and their friends in a state of shock.

The source added: “For Andrew to walk away from his family was a huge shock to us all – and Amy is heartbroken. Everyone who knows them thought they were going to be together forever.

“But he's packed his bags and left with his new co-star. Whatever has gone on, it seems to have been enough for him to re-evaluate his whole life and rip up their marriage. Nobody is quite sure of the exact details, but Andrew has clearly had his head turned pretty dramatically.”

The reports come just weeks after Leila took to social media to share a gushing tribute to Andrew in a series of snaps featuring the entire Better cast and crew.

She captioned the post: “This lot. Couldn't and wouldn't happen without them. Big up the Better team who wiped my tears, held me up, fed me crumpets and made me smile.

“Don't have pics of everyone but this gang got me through! We made a show, it's NOT a Happy Valley replacement but a morality tale which should make you think.”

Amy reportedly became suspicious of her husband after seeing cosy social media snaps of him and co-star Leila Farzad. Sources claim that Nuttall grew concerned Buchan was cheating after he and Farzad appeared a little too close for comfort.

The star's fears were confirmed when she allegedly discovered Andrew had been staying in a hotel close to their home - while claiming to be away working on location, it is also claimed she discovered he had purchased racy lingerie in a different size to hers.

A source told The Sun: 'The penny started to drop over a period of time. He was away a lot, which wasn't unusual because of the nature of his work, but at one point Amy realised he had been staying in hotels very near to home — and wondered why.

"As time moved on, there were some tell-tale signs that he had become close to Leila — just something in his mannerisms and in their social media posts together. But the final straw was the lingerie — that's what clinched it. Amy just knew instinctively that it wasn't meant for her."

The former Emmerdale star, who has reportedly been left so 'crushed' by the end of her marriage that she has been crying almost every day, struggled to raise a smile as she ran errands in Buckinghamshire.

Speaking to MailOnline about the split, Nuttall fought back tears and confessed: "I can't talk about it. I'm sorry, I can't say anything."

Amy is now reportedly coming to terms with her marriage ending and working towards putting her life back together.
