Emmerdale pulled for live coverage from Westminster Hall

Emmerdale was pulled from its 8pm start for coverage of Westminster Hall.

For the last week, ITV has rescheduled or pulled its regular programming in favour of rolling coverage following the Queen's death. Multiple shows including The Chase and Coronation Street have had staggered starts ranging from a few hours to back-to-back episodes in order to compensate for the shift.

In their daily statements, ITV promised viewers Emmerdale would return at an 8pm time slot. Last night viewers got to enjoy a 90-minute marathon as the previously pulled episodes aired back to back.

As viewers sat down to watch the show tonight, ITV pulled the show in favour of coverage of Westminster. The area is where the Queen's coffin will lay in state until her funeral on Monday, September 19. Their presenters discussed the tributes people paid to the monarch and spoke to members of the public who remained in the queue for hours waiting to pay their respects.

In a statement regarding tonight's schedule, ITV said: "At 20:00, Emmerdale will air (originally scheduled for Thurs 15th), followed by Emmerdale (Friday's scheduled episode) at 2030, and then Professor T at 21:00."

The show had a staggered start of eight minutes on Wednesday night but the broadcaster warned that may be the case. The later airing was due to King Charles and his siblings honouring the Queen's coffin together but there is no sign as to why tonight's Emmerdale has been pulled.
