Emmerdale legend Mark Charnock has described the ‘mad’ major change to the soap.
Mark Charnock, 54, has played Marlon Dingle in Emmerdale since 1996. He has spoken to the Express about his long association with the soap ahead of its 50th anniversary with a month of storylines planned for October.
Mark is overwhelmed by the show’s popularity which has seen it grow and grow as part of our TV schedules. Mark acknowledged: “So when I started there were only two episodes a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, it’s mad, isn’t it?

"And now, we do the equivalent of six episodes every week with one every night and a double on Thursdays. It’s a lot but it hasn’t changed how we try to tell stories and we have got more episodes to play with so we can go into more detail.”
The star was keen to praise those who work on the show to ensure its millions of fans are satisfied. “What hasn’t changed is the devotion of the show to make it as good as it can be at any given time,” Mark said.
“It hasn’t changed in how hard we work to get it right.”
