Emmerdale legend Frazer Hines on his favourite storyline and most misunderstood character

Legendary Emmerdale Joe Sugden star Frazer Hines has revealed the current villager he believes is a little misunderstood.

Ahead of the soap’s 50th anniversary, Frazer Hines, 78, has taken a look back at the programme’s legacy. Frazer starred in the soap when it first began back in 1972 and was a fan favourite.

He left back in 1994 and later played Jamie McCrimmon in Doctor Who. He appeared in 117 episodes of the BBC sci-fi series which is more than any other companion.

Frazer is still an ardent fan of Emmerdale and regularly tunes in, with one recent storyline standing out. The Emmerdale icon said: “Oh yes I still watch it now. I loved the Meena story. Paige (Sandhu), she was, gosh she was wonderful.”

When speaking of the current crop of stars, there’s one which stands up to Frazer with him feeling the character is a little misunderstood. “I like Jeff Hordley, Cain Dingle,” said Frazer.

“I think he’s got a twinkle in his eye. I don't think he’s as hard as he makes out.” There’s certainly some truth in Cain Dingle mellowing as we’ve seen recently during mother Faith Dingle’s tragic cancer battle.
