Emmerdale legend Claire King tells fans the identity of Kim Tate's true love

Kim Tate has been soapland’s iconic superbitch for many years and alter ego Claire King has finally revealed the character’s one true love.

Claire King, 60, first played Kim Tate in Emmerdale between 1989 and 1999 before returning in 2018. Down the years, she’s been involved in some major storylines and despicable schemes as well as sharing her bed with many lovers.

As part of a retrospective celebrating Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary Claire has told fans which of Kim’s former bedmates has the character’s heart. Claire, who has previously appeared in Bad Girls and Coronation Street, explained: “The one true love of Kim’s life I believe was Dave Glover but that was the 90s.

“Now I believe because she’s mellowed Will (Taylor, who she is due to marry) could be the true love of her life but I don't know whether she knows it yet. I do think they are a good match for each other and they do work.

“Kim still believes somewhere deep down that Jamie (her son) could be Dave’s and not Frank’s. She always swore that.”

Emmerdale viewers might recall Dave Glover, played by Ian Kelsey between 1994 and 2001 died in a fire. We’ve previously reported, acting star Ian joke about wanting to make an Emmerdale return - stranger things have happened.

“I suppose what needs to happen is Dave Glover's twin brother needs to come back and claims rights to Jamie (Tate),” he said. “He'd have a different walk but he'd look quite like Dave.

“I'd come back into the show and sweep Kim off her feet – can we make that happen?”

Elsewhere, Claire has spoken of her favourite Kim Tate storyline and unsurprisingly it involves Dave Glover. She said: “The Kim, Frank (Tate), Dave love triangle. Particularly when they get caught out and Frank comes in and asks Dave ‘do you call this overtime?’.”

Claire has also discussed how Kim has changed down the years. She’s told fans: “My character has changed since the 90s not only because it’s 20/30 years on so I look a little older but she has mellowed a little bit. T

“This is probably due to everything she’s been through but also I think the calming effect of Will, who does stand up to her but doesn’t grate with her. Which a lot of people have done in the past and this can rub her up the wrong way. Will can deal with her and that has a calming influence. She has a slightly softer heart and is more tolerant of children and a few others now.”
