Emmerdale aired a brutal twist on Tuesday night, that saw Al Chapman shot dead by Cain Dingle on the ITV soap, with actor Michael Wildman bowing out of the show.
The pair's long-running feud came to an abrupt end during a showdown at the barn, amidst a tragic time in the Dales, as Al's affair with Cain's sister Chas Dingle finally came to light.
Al's death is the fourth in just three weeks, following Faith Dingle, Liv Flaherty and Harriet Finch's own demises across October.
Monday's episode had ended with a cliffhanger, as Cain and Al got into a fight before struggling over the shotgun.
Suddenly a shot was fired, and viewers were left wondering who had been injured or killed.
Tuesday's episode opened with the big reveal, as Al's bloodied and lifeless body was shown sprawled out on the floor.
He was clearly dead, with his eyes wide open, as Cain panicked and tried to wipe any evidence off of his gun.
Suddenly, Kerry stormed in and was shocked to find her partner dead on the ground - as Cain fled the scene.
Before he ran, he told her: "It's not what it looks like," as Kerry screamed at daughter Chloe Harris to call the police and an ambulance.
Kerry wasted no time in telling officers what she saw, saying Cain "would pay" as she grieved for her tragic fiancé.
Cain, meanwhile, raced home and said his goodbyes to his wife Moira and his young kids, before armed police descended on the house.
As Cain asked Kyle to step up as "the eldest" and told Moira to keep the kids inside, he stepped outside with his hands up and was led away by officers.
It's then that his sister Chas arrived at the farm and saw what was unfolding, only to hear the arresting officer confirm he was being arrested for the murder of Al Chapman.
It's been teased there will be serious "ripples" in the fallout for several characters, with the future for Cain not yet confirmed.
Cain actor Jeff Hordley teased the fallout to the big moment, revealing: "From here, there are some really good stories. When you do stories like this, you have got to have the ripple effect afterwards.
"This causes certain ripples throughout for various characters within the village. Whether that is me, I can't tell you."
Asked if the big drama ever left him worried he could be dropped from the show, he said: "I'm worried every year. We are only on a year's contract at a time so everybody is nervous."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
