Rather fittingly for a heavy episode, Emmerdale concluded tonight with a shock death.
Wednesday's edition of the soap delved deeper into Faith Dingle’s cancer diagnosis and Leyla Cavanagh’s ongoing drug issues. When viewers thought things couldn’t get any more emotional the soap dropped us a shock death.
Throughout the episode, Al Chapman, played by Michael Wildman, was seen dressed rather sharply with villagers and viewers wondering where he was heading. Towards the end of the episode, we discovered he’d been to his dad’s funeral - a character not featured in Emmerdale.

We discovered this following a confrontation between Al and Chas Dingle - the latter played by Lucy Pargeter. Fans of the soap were quick to air their shock on Twitter.
We saw @chrisste245 post: “Poor Al, what a difficult time for him #emmerdale.” While @EmpHill389 added: “Now we know where Al was dressed like that #rip.”
Some viewers felt we might be in for a week of deep storylines in Emmerdale. Additionally, @itzzzo_ commented: “And if you’ve been affected by issues raised in tonight’s programme, don’t come back for Al and Chas tomorrow #Emmerdale.” Another @Ockeghem1497 commented: “Just ignore her Al. #Emmerdale.”
We spotted @JamieTVandNews add: “What would be nice is some fan service instead of giving us exactly what we don't want #Emmerdale.” There was a little bit of light-relief, much-needed for some it would seem, tonight as some of the Dingles wanted to buy a caravan.
In a stinging post @cassam101 said: “I know we all dream of what we can't have but Lydia wanting that caravan when she lives in a hovel is stretching it a bit #emmerdale.” And @ShakyWoon posted: “Lydia ‘this isn't just a caravan, this is a Lifelong dream caravan’. Now we finally discover who's behind the voice of the M&S adverts! #Emmerdale.”
