Emmerdale icon lands new role after dramatic exit as fans call for her return to ITV soap

Paige Sandhu has landed a huge new role after her dramatic exit from Emmerdale.

The actress played serial killer Meena Jutla on the soap, and has an army of fans who are desperate to see her make her return to the programme one day. Meena is currently serving a prison sentence for the murders of several village residents but she is very much alive, with fans of the character hopeful she might come back to the Dales one day.

Now Paige has revealed she has a new role in the works, in a movie called Lioness. Sharing the exciting venture with her Instagram followers, she said she was "humbled and honoured" to be joining the cast.

Meena was a fan favourite character in Emmerdale, despite her crimes (ITV)

Taking to her Instagram account, she wrote: "I am so incredibly humbled and honoured to be announcing #Lioness.

"To say this part, this story, this cast & crew is a dream come true would be doing it a disservice – I am so blown away by this incredible story and cannot wait for the world to learn about Princess Sophia Duleep Singh. Granddaughter of the Lion of Punjab, youngest daughter of the deposed Maharajah Duleep Singh and goddaughter to Queen Victoria."

She added: "Her life, the people she helped and her work as a suffragette is truly amazing. And I am SO delighted to be working with the amazing @aditiraohydari and @kajribabbar

"Oh go on, I am going to say it! It is a dream come true!" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Alongside her post, she also shared a quote from Emmeline Pankhurst.

Alongside a screenshot of an article announcing her new role, she posted the quote, which read: "So here am I. I come in the intervals of prison appearance: I come after having been four times imprisoned under the 'Cat and Mouse Act' , probably going back to be rearrested as soon as I set my foot on British soil. I come to ask you to help to win this fight. If we win it, this hardest of all fights, then, to be sure, in the future it is going to be made easier for women all over the world to win their fight when their time comes."

Her soap co-stars, fans and friends rushed to congratulate her on the new role.

"A mazingggggg, congratulations lovely can’t wait to see it! you will be fantastic and what a world away from meena hey ha well done mate xx," Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty, wrote alongside the post.

Fellow soap star Milly Zero added: "congratulations!!!!," whilst Michelle Hardwick, who plays Vanessa, penned: " Fantastic news."
