Emmerdale fans think they might have spotted a connection between newcomer nanny Nicky and Lydia Dingle after the pair shared scenes on Thursday evening.
Gabby Thomas ( Rosie Bentham ) and the new nanny Nicky have been growing closer over the past few weeks after the mum of one immediately took a shine to him when he was interviewed.
When he was then hired to look after the kids at Home Farm, sparks flew between the pair as Gabby was in the midst of cracking on with career and putting her Jamie Tate romance behind her.
However, Nicky (played by Lewis Cope) subsequently pushed her away, explaining that he wants to keep a professional distance between the two.
After the pair again shared a moment of mutual attraction in scenes on Thursday, Nicky ended up turning to Kim’s cleaner Lydia for advice on the situation.
The scenes left many Emmerdale viewers at home speculating whether the soap could be lining up a bigger storyline between the pair, after he then advised Lydia to ask Kim for a pay rise as she has been struggling with hiked prices.
Many fans have come up with their own theories about Nicky's true identity, and some believe he could be the long-lost son of Lydia (Karen Blick).
Lydia had a stillbirth at the age of 15 when she was going under the name of Jenny Finn and she gave birth to the baby in the woods.
Despite burying her own baby, fans now think the soap could be revising her backstory and her baby could be none other than Nicky.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “Lydia's having scenes with Nicky would suggest he's her kid. Could they be changing her backstory?”
A second echoed: “Is Nicky just being nice with Lydia or is he from her past?”
Another theorised: “Somebody said Lydia from Emmerdale could be Nicky’s mum like her kid didn’t actually die at birth.
“I really want it to be true cause I love her and she deserves to be happy!”
Taking to a Facebook fan group to share their thoughts, one eagle-eyed viewer wrote: “I was thinking [Nicky] could be Lydia’s son, maybe he didn’t die at birth.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
