Emmerdale fans upset by 'harsh' scenes as they make heartbreaking prediction over Jai and Rishi paternity bombshell

Emmerdale fans have shared their upset at the latest episode of the soap as Jai Sharma was seen confronting his dad Rishi after discovering he wasn't actually his real dad. Jai was left stunned earlier this week when he discovered that he is adopted after finding his adoption papers.

The first episode of the ITV soap of the week on Monday (June 26) started on a high note for Jai after a mistake whilst booking a holiday for the family led to his girlfriend Laurel Thomas popping the question. With her proposal delightfully accepted, the newly engaged couple were soon happily discussing the correct order to tell people their news, with Laurel choosing to break the news to step-daughter Gabby Thomas first after she was recently jilted at the alter.

Meanwhile, in order to progress with getting married, Jai realised he needs to retrieve his divorce certificate so heads to find his legal documents but as he rummaged through the drawers, he was left shocked to find papers that revealed he was adopted, before showing them to Laurel.

During Tuesday night's trip to the Dales (June 27), Jai was seen arriving back home from an early morning run to a concerned Laurel who told him he couldn't run away from his problems. And so later, he was seen confronting Rishi about what he discovered and wanted answers.

Rishi initially stayed quiet and did not give Jai the answers he wanted leaving Jai furious. Eventually, the pair did speak and Rishi claimed everything he and Jai's mother had done was in his best interest. He confirmed his ex-wife Georgia was his biological mother as Jai had believed all this time.

But Rishi claimed that Georgia fell pregnant after a one-night stand while she and Rishi were just friends. He shared how he then decided to support her as their friendship blossomed into a romance before Jai's arrival into the world. Jai then wanted to know who his real father was, but Rishi said the man was out of the picture before he was born and didn't even know about him.

Jai didn't take Rishi's reluctance to share exactly what happened between Georgia and his real father and didn't shy away from being angry at Rishi as he confronted him.

Taking to social media, Emmerdale fans shared their upset at the way Jai handled talking to Rishi about his shock discovery. @deedurkin33 said: "This is so unfair on Rishi.. Although I do know how hurtful it is to be lied too. I hope Jai realises he couldn't have asked for a better father than Rishi.. He is so kind and funny."

@sabrina_p_786 asked: "Did Rishi deserve to be shouted at, with Jai standing over him like that?" @annenewbold5 added: "Well I'm sorry but this is very harsh and unfair to rishi poor rishi and what hurtful words jay should be thanking rishi for being his father instead of shouting at him."

Meanwhile, other viewers were convinced there was more to the story, and believe they may have known what happened to Georgia all those years ago. @sianelizxx said: "Hmmm wonder if there’s more to it … maybe his mum was assaulted by this guy?"

@mrscarter22 tweeted: "I think that Jai is a result of rape. Rishi took the mantle, but now is bearing the brunt of Jai's anger #Emmerdale." @lil_fairy_doll added: "There has to be some god awful reason why Rishi has never told Jay. Like r@pe or something equally as awful #Emmerdale."

But some were confused as to why Rishi's name wasn't put on the birth certificate if the father wasn't in the picture from the very start, @VictoriaMuzz commented: "#Emmerdale If Rishi married Jay's Mum when she was pregnant, why not just put his name on the b/certificate? Why adopt him? Must be more to who the bio father is."

@Lynne1985 posted: "Don’t understand why Rishi’s name wouldn’t be on the birth certificate anyway who’s going to turn up, the mum or real dad? #emmerdale." @EloquentParrot added: "Hang on. If Jai's Mum is his Mum and it was "an insignificant one night stand" and he never featured, why did Rishi need to adopt instead of just being on the birth certificate? #Emmerdale."
