Emmerdale fans are sure they've uncovered a potential double twist following the surprise return of Rhona's ex-husband Gus Malcolm.
Last month - and much to Rhona's shock - the character appeared in the village and bizarrely asked her if he and his new wife Lucy could use her remaining embryos.
Initially, Rhona was horrified at the request. However, she soon came round after learning Gus hoped to use the remaining embryos he and Rhona had stored, as cancer had left him unable to conceive through natural means, as writes MEN.
Later in the series, Rhona's husband Marlon Dingle and mum Mary Goskirk disagreed with her compassion, resulting in Rhona changing her decision.
When she broke the news to Gus, he became violent and continued to guilt-trip his ex-wife, eventually pushing her against a wall when she didn't agree.
The terrified character, played by Zoe Henry, demanded that he left and when Gus, played by Alan McKenna, realised his error he decided to leave the situation.
On Tuesday night's episode of the soap, he was viewed as the hero- coming to Mary's rescue after she was left out cold by her lover Faye, whose lies over the Ecuadorian women's refuse were soon exposed.
Once the lies began to come out after Faye, Mary confronted her. However, she showed no remorse as Mary desperately attempted to claw back money left for her by Suzy Merton, following their recent fundraiser.
She was knocked to the floor and subsequently left bleeding from her head.
Troublemaker Faye smirked and left, along with the money and camera which had been left.
Luckily enough for Mary, Gus had already turned up and let himself in, finding her knocked out on the ground.
In a panic, he attempted to call Rhona, but the call failed and he was left with no option but to call 999.
Soon, Suzy and paramedics were on the scene attending to Mary. However, despite her injuries, she made sure to thank Gus for taking care of her.
"Take care," Gus replied as he said he'd try another time to get in touch with Rhona.
But as he left the scene, keen viewers spotted him glancing onto the same sideboard Faye had stolen the camera from.
While some wondered whether Faye and Gus were known to each other, other fans were predicting Gus may get his way after all.
@Jamal06122771 tweeted: "Why do I have a bad feeling Gus and this woman are working together. He looked a bit dodgy leaving the house."
@Rosepetal98_ said: "Mary’s going to convince Rhona to give Gus permission to use her embryos!"
@pam_debeauvoir posted: "Does Ghastly Gus think Rhona will repay him finding her mum, by changing her mind about the embryos. I do hope not."
Meanwhile, @PaulPoeUK predicted: "Gus is quite clearly going to forge the signature. 9 months time rock up with a baby. #Emmerdale."
@News4Emmerdale added: "Gus took a slowwww walk out of Smithy’s. Did he pocket something on his way out? #emmerdale."
