Emmerdale fans taken aback as Cain Dingle has a complete change of character

Fans of Emmerdale were absolutely floored as Cain Dingle became "the voice of reason" on tonight's episode.

In recent episodes Dr Liam Cavanagh has been desperate to get revenge on Meena for killing his daughter Leanna.

He had confided in Cain that he wanted Meena dead, but confessed that he didn't have it in him to shoot her and begged the Dingle to do it for him.

On tonight's episode, Cain turned up at Liam's house to discuss the plan.

Cain said: "I can't do it mate".

He continued: "I know what you're going through. I understand why you would want to do this."

Liam replied: "Which is why I've asked you... Why I'm still asking you."

Cain fell silent before Liam said: "Ok... well I guess it's back to plan A" to which Cain replied: "No, I'm not going to let you ruin your life."

He begged Liam to think about what he was doing as he said: "So you're going to find Meena, and you're going to shoot her. Dead. There's no coming back from that.

"This isn't you. You're not the type of person to kill someone in cold blood."

But Liam was still determined to continue with his plan looking for justice.

Cain was determined to have no part in it as he said: "Either way I'm not going to help you throw your life away" as he walked out of the door.

Viewers at home were floored at the change in character of Cain Dingle, who is often known for a quick temper and getting himself into trouble. They took to Twitter to share their shock.

Mid said: "Who would have thought that Cain would be the voice of reason? #emmerdale @emmerdale #TheDingles."

Ryan said: "Cain persuading someone not to have revenge. That's very out of the ordinary for Cain #Emmerdale."

Matthew said: "Cain, the voice of reason-that's a first! #Emmerdale @MrBadger62 @JillHudson21."

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV and ITV Hub with an additional episode at 8pm on Thursdays
