Emmerdale fans sob over big change to soap during heartbreaking funeral episode

Emmerdale aired heartbreaking scenes on Friday night, as the Dingles bid a final farewell to two of their much-loved relatives.

There was a double funeral for Faith Dingle, who died earlier this month, and Liv Flaherty who was killed in the deadly storm last week.

Faith's children Cain and Chas Dingle, and Liv's husband Vinny Dingle and her brother Aaron Dingle all led the way, as the village united in emotional scenes.

As the episode began, several residents were seen preparing themselves for the tear-jerking day ahead, still struggling to process their grief.

Emotional music placed at the start as the coffins were taken through the village, each in a horse drawn carriage with Faith and Liv's names written in flowers.

As the service began, Eric Pollard read out Faith's final letter to her family, as viewers saw the beloved character one last time in a sweet flashback scene.

As her loved ones sobbed, Faith told them she would see them again - and that they could find her at the bar.

Shortly after, Aaron tried to read a message he had written for his late sibling Liv, but he became too emotional and was supported by Vinny.

Vinny said his own goodbye to his late wife as he spoke of grief, and not knowing if he would be able to survive without her a week on from her tragically dying in his arms.

As the service ended, Chas broke down on her mum's casket as her brother Cain comforted her - and the sad music from before once again began to play.

As they and others, including Vinny and Aaron, made their way back through the village they faced a touching moment that once again reduced fans to tears.

Every adult and teen character in the village, including the rest of the Dingles, had lined either side of the main street just as the carriages were going past.

They all held a white rose each, and placed it on the floor as Faith and Liv made their final journeys, followed by their closest loved ones.

As Vinny cried over the heartbreaking gesture, residents paid their respects and watched as the carriages travelled past - while Zak Dingle was also present via a video call, with him lowering his hat as a mark of respect.

The episode then faded into the advert break, and instead of the usual theme music the logo was accompanied by the emotional song that had been playing since the service came to an end.

Viewers took to Twitter over the devastating and moving scenes, revealing they could not stop crying.

One fan said: "Not me crying at #Emmerdale when I haven't watched it for years! Crikey!"

Another tweeted: "what the hell have you done, im a blubbering reck."

A third viewer added: "Oh my god I’ve got goosebumps, what a send off for Faith and Liv, I’m on the edge of bawling my eyes out."

Meanwhile, a fourth fan said: "Crying my eyes out at the village all laying roses for faith and liv."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
