Emmerdale fans react as Chas Dingle declares love for Al despite ultimatum from son Aaron

Emmerdale's landmark 50th anniversary is taking place this month and there are only a few days left until the special episode airs on the official birthday this Sunday (October 16). As well as a big storm set to hit the village, there are some long-running storylines slowly coming to a head - one in particular being the affair between Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) and Al Chapman (Michael Wildman).

The pair have been sneaking around for months and, despite being caught by Belle Dingle and Chas promising she would put an end to it, they were caught again last week by Chas' son, Aaron. He gave her an ultimatum, saying she had to break up with Al or he would leave the village - and if fans were hoping that would be the end of the affair, unfortunately it seems Chas and Al just can't keep away from each other.

In Monday (October 10) night's episode, the pair met in a car in the woods and Al told Chas that they had the "rest of our lives" to be together after Chas declared her love for him, Leeds Live reports. She said: "I think I may have lost my mind but I think I love you... I can't give you up, Al. I've been pretending that I can but I can't."

Fans of the soap opera were quick to take to Twitter following the shocking scene, with many hoping the upcoming storm could finally put an end to the secret affair. Manda Louise said: "At this point I wouldn't mind if the wind blew Chas away I hate her character they've ruined her might aswell kill her off #emmerdale."

Jess posted: "Oh ewwww. Can the storm can take the pair of them pls? If just Al dies I can’t bear to watch Chas pine over him #Emmerdale." Ryan Glendenning tweeted: "Chas says she "Loves" Al Now she'll lose EVERYTHING!!!!! Her mom Aaron and everything!!!!!! Don't feel anything for Chas at all she is vile. My heart breaks for Paddy he doesn't deserve this #Emmerdale."

Amelia added: "Is chas for real? You love al? More than your actually family? Husband? Son? Selfish **** #emmerdale." Georgia said: "nothing is irritating me more than Chas and Al. NOTHING. my blood is boiling. #emmerdale #emmerdale50".

Some viewers were left wondering if the scene was a "foreshadowing". Charlotte said: "Duno why but I've got a hunch Al could die in the anniversary week. He said to Chas yesterday 'the rest of our lives' so this could be foreshadowing it won't be very long. Plus she'd just declared she loves him, what if he dies & no one knew she was in love with him #Emmerdale." Joanna also added: "Al is definitely dying in the storm...#Emmerdale."

Another fan Shaky predicted: "I think Chas is telling Al she loves him to keep him sweet so that he wouldn't report Aaron to the police for assaulting him #Emmerdale."

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV and ITV Hub from 7.30pm. The hour-long special episode to mark the soap's 50th birthday will air on Sunday, October 16.
