Emmerdale fans left devastated as Harriet dies after jaw-dropping explosion

Emmerdale fans have expressed their sorrow after Harriet Finch died following the storm which had detrimental effects on the picturesque village.

As part of the 50th anniversary, bosses of the ITV soap promised more drama than ever as they teased deaths and heartache for many.

But, following the dramatic episode on Sunday (October 16), viewers had been waiting to discover who became a victim of the violent weather.

As the latest episode opened, Kim Tate was seen lying next to Harriet who appeared lifeless – leading Kim to check her pulse.

After discovering Harriet had died, the local millionaire was emotional as she said: "I'm sorry," before fleeing the scene.

Dan was the first person to discover a lifeless Harriet in the woods as he burst into tears while cradling the police officer.

Following the dramatic scenes, viewers flocked to social media to share their devastation after a firm fan favourite bowed out of the soap after ten years.

One heartbroken viewer said: "They actually killed Harriet off! WTF? #Emmerdale."

While a second penned: "Noooooo not Harriet #Emmerdale."

"Harriet can't be dead!" added a third.

Before a fourth commented: "#Emmerdale Didn't know Harriet was getting bumper off. I liked her."

Kim later explained that she had come across Harriet before "leaving her" after freeing her from under the quad bike.

She broke down in tears as she confirmed Harriet had died after suffering heavy bleeding.

During the tense episode on Sunday, Harriet and Claire King were seen looking lifeless following a quad bike crash as well as an explosion.

Speaking about filming her death scene, actress Katherine Dow Blyton said: "I got very emotional reading it, on the actual day I was covered in blood and I had various bits of woodland hanging out of my hair.

"We had these industrial wind machines which were literally blowing sand and debris into your eyes.

"So when it came to it, it wasn't as emotional because the technicality of what you have to do takes away from the emotion so I managed to get through the day without sobbing – the death wasn't my last scene though but on my last day, I received flowers and lovely gifts and messages.

"I don't think it will hit me that I'm not going back for a couple of weeks because it feels like I'm on a break but it will slowly hit me."

Reflecting on her exit from the soap, she added: "I will very much miss playing her although I won’t miss wearing the police uniform.

"What I loved about coming into Emmerdale and what really made me want to play Harriet was because she was coming in as the vicar."

But while Katherine will "very much miss" playing Harriet, she admits that she's always going to be close by as they're "not too dissimilar".

During her time on the ITV soap, Katherine's character saw herself become embroiled in several landmark storylines but she insists one of her all-time favourites of working on Emmerdale was Harriet's affair with Cain Dingle.
