Emmerdale fans were in disbelief on Tuesday night, following the death of Al Chapman on the ITV soap.
But it wasn't Al's brutal demise that left them reeling, as actor Michael Wildman bowed out of the role after three years.
During a scene that saw Cain Dingle arrested for Al's murder, the dead character's real name was announced - and it wasn't what fans were expecting.
As the armed officer confirmed his full name, viewers raced to Twitter in shock and shared their thoughts - amid speculation the police have the wrong killer.
Al has always gone by 'Al', obviously, with many viewers assuming his full name could be Alan or Albert.
But the armed officer confirmed his name to be Alistair Chapman, and fans just could not believe what they were hearing.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer commented: "I'm more shocked that his name is Alistair, didn't think that was his name....maybe Alan."
Another fan agreed: "Woody was an ALISTAIR!!!" as a third wrote: "Alistair?!"
A fourth stunned viewer said: "You killed Alister Chapman, I so wish Cain had replied who the f*** is Alister."
The comments kept coming too, as another viewer said: "That was my look too when the police officer said Alistair."
The shocking twist on the soap led to Al's departure, but it could also be the end for another village resident.
Cain was arrested for the crime, and now viewers are convinced he could be about to leave the soap too after around 20 years on screen.
One fan said: "Cain is going to run away to France and meet up with Andy, Adam and any other person who has fled there # Emmerdale."
"Is Cain going out of Emmerdale as well?? #Emmerdale," tweeted a second.
A third added: "If Cain is leaving I’m actually done watching. I can't lose Cain and Aaron in the same week #Emmerdale."
Actor Jeff Hordley who plays Cain recently spoke about his fears that he may be axed from the soap one day.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
