Emmerdale fans distracted by big change as exciting flashforward week begins

Emmerdale fans were left feeling distracted by a big change to the opening sequence as it began airing its special flashforward week.

The ITV soap has teased there will be a huge first of its kind stunt in this upcoming flashforward week, which will see a week of time continuous episodes and brief glimpses of the future as lives dangle in the balance.

As the show aired its first flashforward of the week, Emmerdale fans were left feeling XXXXXXXXXXX as they commented on the special format, which will see several characters at risk as things heat up in the Yorkshire village.

However, some fans were left distracted by the soundtrack playing on the ITV soap.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "What's with the incidental music suddenly appearing on Emmerdale ? An unusual addition. At least use The Wurzels. #Emmerdale."

"who thought adding background music to emmerdale was a good idea honestly," a second added, with a third writing: "Cue dramatic camera work, dramatic music - same old load of b**** #Emmerdale."

A fourth shared: " Emmerdale ’s gone all edgy again tonight. Meaning my mum is just constantly asking “What’s going on? Who’s in that car? Why is there music ?."

However, others enjoyed the new addition, with one fan of the ITV soap penning online: " #Emmerdale I liked that instrumental music , ending last week. This must be the vocal version. It's all very dramatic. I wonder who the artist is?"

Producer Laura Shaw previously teased that they had been planning the flashforward week "for a while now".

"We've been planning this for a while now and we know that the audience love it when we step out of our usual storytelling style. We've done a similar sort of thing like this before - we did the Big Night Out episode, we did Graham's murder and we're going to be following a similar pattern of episodes that start with flash-forwards that gives the audience the chance to play a bit of Emmerdale detective and see if they can work out what's going to happen during the week," she teased to The Mirror and other press.

"I think it's always exciting when we do these weeks and I think Emmerdale's become really well known for them now and it's always the question I get asked the most - when are you doing it again?" she added.

"Certainly here, it gets the whole building buzzing with excitement, because everyone knows it's going to mean some stories that have been bubbling away are going to massively explode in a huge way, whilst also kicking off other stories in a big dramatic fashion that will take us through the rest of the year and to our huge 50th birthday celebrations in October."

*Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV.
