Emmerdale fans hoping to see Vanessa and Charity reunite were dealt a cruel blow as Vanessa made a stinging remark to her ex.
Viewers tuning into tonight's episode were left disappointed when Vanessa hit out at Charity over the way she treats people, as they had hoped the pair would get back together as Charity and Mack's romance was on the rocks.
And as Mackenzie made his final decision to leave the village for good and head up to Glasgow for a job, Charity was finally left single - with fans now hoping it meant that the former couple - nicknamed Vanity - could reunite.
Earlier in the episode, Mack brandished a big bunch of flowers as he tried to win Charity back. He suggested the pair move in together, even going as far as stealing and copying Charity's keys from her purse in a bid to prove to her how serious he was about her.
However, she rejected his idea and he admitted to her it was time for him to go back to Glasgow. Despite a heart to heart with Moira Dingle, Mack decided to head back to Scotland after being offered a job there - but not before he said one more goodbye to Charity.
"You were being serious?" Charity said, as Mack insisted he was. "I'll get Bob to cover and then we can talk about it properly, if that's what it takes," she pleaded with him but he wasn't having any of it.
Mack replied: "No don't put yourself out. I said I wanted to live with you, and you said get stuffed."
Before he sped up and drove out of the village, he chucked her keys at Charity and told her to have a nice life, nearly accidentally running Charity's ex Vanessa over in the process.
"Your boyfriend almost knocked me down," Vanessa said, storming over to Charity, "Has he dumped you?"
Charity replied: "Seems that way, yeah. He wanted to move things on - but it's not as simple as that, is it?"
"Why not?" Vanessa asked, "Are you saying you've driven him away because of me?"
Charity admitted she wasn't sure - but it was then that Vanessa offered a stinging remark to her former lover, telling her: "You are such a flake. The way you treat people who care about you - why would I ever want you back?"
Disappointed fans took to Twitter to vent their frustration.
" emmerdale babes ily but can you STOP ENDING ON SAD CHARITY CLOSE UPS," one wrote, as another added: "VANESSA COME ON NOW YOU KNOW YOU LOVE HER. #emmerdale."
A third shared: " #emmerdale no you can’t end it like that," with a fourth fan of Vanity writing on Twitter: "THAT WAS NOT THE WAY I WANTED THIS EPISODE TO END @EMMERDALE."
