Fans of the the long running soap opera, set in Yorkshire and filmed in Leeds, have been calling for a 'major change' as the character of Dan makes things 'worse'. Tonight's episode saw Dan Spencer, portrayed by actor Liam Fox, visit a hospital where a man who he punched was lying in a coma.

He confronted the man's wife, telling her in an emotionally charged scene that her husband had been sexually harassing his daughter. But viewers were left feeling cold after tonight's episode and even called for a reduction of episodes in a bid to improve the quality of the show.

Taking to Twitter, @Rozzy67 said: "Anyone else think Emmerdale should go back to twice, or maybe three times a week? #QualityOverQuantity! It feels like a real chore watching now, it's become so dull, uninteresting characters, daft plotlines. Life is too short to waste 2¼ hours a week on this."

@Immayo1 said: "Emmerdale needs another character culling catastrophe, there are far too many dull characters in it at the moment. Dan, Amelia, Jacob, David, Chloe, all the Anderson's apart from Nathan, Jai..."

Beckie Miller said: "Terrible acting and laughable scripts. This has gone so far down the lavatory I’m not sure it can ever recover."

Others were left feeling as though Dan had shot himself in the foot after tonight's episode. Dan Baker simply put: "Dan, just go home." Jamie Summers added: "That isn't gonna help, Dan."

Ryan Glendenning said: "Dan, you're making things a whole lot worse. If you know what is best for you you'll stay away."
