Emmerdale fans break down in tears as Faith Dingle dies in son Cain's arms

Emmerdale fans broke down in tears this evening as Faith Dingle tragically died in her son Cain's arms.

The beloved matriarch, played by Sally Dexter, left fans sobbing as she made a drastic decision to die alone after having the perfect day surrounded by friends and family.

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this year, Faith eventually told those closest to her as she planned her final weeks.

In emotional scenes last night, Faith had been too poorly to travel to the seaside by herself and her family planned a very special day surrounded by all her loved ones and family friends.

Led by her children Chas Dingle and Cain Dingle, and supported by Faith's daughter in law Moira, the family decided to turn a corner of the Yorkshire village into a real-life slice of the seaside.

Deciding to spend her final moments alone, Faith left her family after making a devastating decision to end her life early.

She had attempted to send Cain away to buy a stick of rock hours away, but Moira realised something was wrong and the pair rushed to be by her side.

And viewers were left in floods of tears, taking to social media to comment.

One tweeted: "Ok...4 minutes in and I'm a crying mess @ emmerdale #emmerdale #emmerdale50."

While another commented: "Already crying #emmerdale."

A third wrote: "If anyone needs me I’ll be crying into my dinner #emmerdale."

If you're struggling and need to talk, the Samaritans operate a free helpline open 24/7 on 116 123. Alternatively, you can email jo@samaritans.org or visit their site to find your local branch.

*Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV
