Emmerdale birthday celebrations set for sinister end as villager faces 'life in jail'

Emmerdale's 50th anniversary will end in sinister fashion as a character faces life in prison.

The long-running soap will mark its milestone birthday with a month of celebrations in October. Show bosses have revealed the episodes will centre around a devastating storm which will forever transform the fictional village.

Producer Kate Brooks told the ECHO: "It will leave a massive trail of destruction in its wake and some of our best loved villagers will be in peril. It's safe to say that the village won't be the same ever again because the impact this storm will have is massive."

The soap's executive producer has said the drama won't be over after the storm as one character find themselves in trouble with the law. Jane Hudson said: "When we get to the end of October, it might be the end of our celebrations, but we will be ending that month with a storyline which kicks off a whole new story and potentially sees one of our characters looking at spending the rest of their life in jail.

"I'm not going to tell you anything else about that story. Don't ask me because I will not tell you."

It's set to be jam packed month of episodes as three beloved characters will also return to the show. Kate revealed Aaron Dingle, Diane Sugden and Tracy Metcalfe will temporarily return to the village for the anniversary episodes. She said: "They'll be at the heart of some really big stories that will impact their lives and the lives of the characters they will leave behind."
