Emmerdale actress Sally Dexter details 'poignant' exit scenes as Faith Dingle dies

Emmerdale actress Sally Dexter has reacted to her character Faith Dingle's devastating decision to "end her days alone" next week.

Faith will die in harrowing scenes, with new details revealed about the episodes.

The character recently asked her daughter-in-law Moira Dingle to be with her when the time came, as she revealed plans to take her own life.

Faith is battling cancer, and her health has deteriorated in recent weeks with the cancer having spread.

Her difficult decision comes after she shared her concerns that as her cancer worsens, she fears could be in pain, become unable to communicate, and lose control of who she is - despite the best efforts of palliative care.

Now, new spoilers have confirmed when she will die as she passes away in scenes next week leaving her family devastated.

Speaking about the scenes ahead, Sally has revealed why Faith changes her mind and decides to die on her own.

She said: "The thought of her children being criminalised for helping her would cause Faith untold anxiety and anguish, so she couldn’t let them know anything about it, for their sakes.

"And though she knows she wouldn’t be asking Moira to actually assist her dying, she realises she cannot have any possibility of Moira being implicated either, and for that reason, even though Moira relents and agrees to be by her side; Faith decides to take control alone."

Sally went on of what changes her mind: "The absolute decider comes after talking to Sam who had assisted in the death of Alice, his first wife, and is still haunted by the memory of it."

The actress also revealed she always knew her character's fate, saying: "I found it really quite poignant to film, I knew it meant Faith's time in Emmerdale was up, and so was mine.

"I always knew Faith was coming back to die. My idea was to have her save Cain and Chas from some sort of attack in the Woolie - say from a bullet or a knife aimed at her children from a crazed intruder!

"I could picture her sliding down the side of the bar, with Cain and Chas declaring her a heroine! But the story Jane (Hudson) and the team wanted was a far more important and difficult one to tell. I only hope we have done as much justice as we could."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
