Emmerdale actor Paul Copley joins Coronation Street as mysterious man from Evelyn's past

Former Emmerdale star Paul Copley is joining Coronation Street for a secret new role.

The veteran actor, who has also appeared in Downton Abbey and Last Tango In Halifax, is swapping the Dales for Weatherfield.

Paul, 75, will be playing a mysterious man from Evelyn Plummer's murky past - and has already been spotted arriving on set.

He was seen filming at a vet's surgery alongside fan favourites Maureen Lipman and Alan Halsall with Evelyn's beloved pooch Cerberus.

Paul will be playing Arthur, an old friend of Evelyn, but not much else is known about the exciting new storyline.

Corrie fans will be speculating as to whether Arthur is a relation, a love interest or a new villain.

It remains to be seen how Arthur will affect the family dynamic - with Tyrone Dobbs already struggling after having his kids taken away by social services.

Will Arthur give some joy to Evelyn? Or is he bringing trouble?
