Emme Rylan‘s run as Lulu on General Hospital is officially coming to an end. The actress confirmed the news via her Instagram Story, expressing disappointment with the decision to recast the role but also gratitude for the experiences and connections she gained during her time on the show.
Rylan, who portrayed Lulu for seven years, shared a video of herself making necklaces with her daughter as a way to distract herself from the news. She thanked her fans for their support and messages.
Lulu's character is currently in a coma following an explosion at the Floating Rib in a 2020 episode. Speculation arose about the character's future after a casting notice for a character named Lauren circulated. The description of Lauren as beautiful, dynamic, and fiery hinted at a strong and determined personality who has overcome challenges.
Before Rylan took on the role of Lulu, Julie Marie Berman portrayed the character from 2005 to 2013. Rylan has also appeared in other soap operas such as Guiding Light and The Young and the Restless.
Rylan expressed her willingness to reprise the role of Lulu if the character were to wake up from her coma. However, the casting for the character of Lauren indicates a new direction for the storyline.
General Hospital has yet to officially cast the role of Lulu for upcoming episodes set to begin taping in September. This means that viewers may not see the new version of the character on screen until October at the earliest.
