French President Emmanuel Macron is currently in Berlin for a three-day visit, marking the first state visit by a French president to Germany in two years. This visit is significant as it demonstrates a show of unity between the two nations, especially in light of the upcoming EU parliamentary elections next month.

Upon his arrival, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier warmly welcomed Mr. Macron, emphasizing the shared commitment of France and Germany to defending freedom and peace. Both leaders acknowledged the importance of this year for European democracy and the need for solidarity among EU member states.

During his visit, Mr. Macron called on European leaders to stand firm in their support for Ukraine, highlighting the importance of upholding international law and principles in maintaining peace. He stressed the distinction between peace and capitulation, emphasizing the need for countries to defend their borders and sovereignty while working towards lasting peace through adherence to international law.

Aside from diplomatic discussions, Mr. Macron also took the opportunity to visit a massive football pitch constructed in front of the Brandenburg Gate, in preparation for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament scheduled to commence in June. The visit to the football pitch added a touch of cultural engagement to the diplomatic proceedings, showcasing the shared enthusiasm for sports between France and Germany.
