Maximalism is back in a big way for interiors. We're seeing it in the form of colorful wall paint and curated clustering, but a timeless way to go bold in the home is through statement furniture. We're talking about velvet sofas and tree-shaped bookshelves – items that stand out but still retain functionality.
Emma Roberts has achieved this impact with her living area thanks to a remarkable dining table. The American Horror Story and Scream Queens star recently posted a photo of her warm sitting room, outfitted with a striped red couch, a variety of vintage table and floor lamps, and most notably, a geometric patterned, round dining table.
Patterned features generally add a touch of whimsy and personality to a space, and this is particularly true when the patterns appear on unexpected objects, like a large dining table, rather than more traditional options, such as curtains or blankets.

Due to the nature of these bold objects, some considerations should be made when decorating around statement furniture.
'When styling a bold dining table, opt for simple and elegant tableware to allow the table itself to stand out,' Lichtenstein states. 'White or neutral-colored plates, along with minimalist glassware and sleek cutlery, create a balanced look without overwhelming the eye.'
She also suggests experimenting with tableware colors that complement (or contrast) the table design.
'For example, if you have a brightly colored table, consider using tableware in a complementary shade to create a harmonious palette,' she states.
Colors should also be carefully planned out. We love how Roberts decorated around the table with warm neutrals and deep burgundies, so as not to overpower the showstopping table. Experts endorse this technique, too.
'Incorporate neutral tones in the surrounding decor to create a cohesive backdrop for the statement table,' Lichtenstein says. 'Use neutral-colored walls, curtains, and area rugs to allow the table's design to take center stage.'
She says introducing different textures can also add depth and visual interest, with 'decorative elements such as a plush rug under the table, velvet or linen chair upholstery, and metallic accents in light fixtures or decor pieces.'
